….The Adult and Community Education Center continues to offer opportunities for our students to learn and use computers to connect to friends, family, and the world using technology. We utilize the MS Windows XP, Vista and Macintosh operating systems.

Getting the Most from Your Digital Camera (3 sessions)
This workshop is for those who have made the decision to buy a digital camera and want to learn how to use it. Learn when to use a flash, the differences between menus and function keys, and how to operate them. Learn about the cameras and the many options or modes, including auto, portrait, landscape, etc., and when to use them. Set the camera, take pictures, then learn to upload them into the computer using either the designated cord or a card reader. Set up a folder and put the pictures into it. Edit and save them so they can be used with other programs. Burn the pictures to a CD. Scan, edit, resize for email, print and save a photo. Students MUST bring camera, camera cord, manuals, charged batteries, or extra batteries and the software that came with the camera.

Digital Camera: Buttons, Menus & Settings (2 sessions)
This class provides information for students ready to operate and take digital photos. Learn the difference between auto mode and scene mode, how to set up red-eye, which resolution to use, when to use your flash, how to set up the self-timer, set the date and time, and the difference between wide angle and telephoto lens. Discover Playback mode and learn how to download, backup and upload to web albums so that you can purchase photo books and prints from your digital photos. This is a hands-on class. Students must bring a charged camera, extra batteries, a USB cord, and the manual that came with the camera.

Digital Camera: The Basic Operation (2 sessions)
This class provides information and experience for students to be ready to operate and take pictures with the digital camera. Among the topics to be covered: buttons and some menus, zooming in and out, flash ON, flash OFF, red-eye and auto, picture taking and review modes. Let's take some pictures (point, zoom, shoot), automatic vs manual-which gives you better pictures?

Digital Camera: Editing with Free Picasa Software (2 sessions)
Learn to improve your digital pictures with Picasa, the FREE downloadable editing program.  Learn to crop, resize (to fit in frames, albums and emails), and improve the color, contrast, brightness and sharpness of your pictures.  This basic introduction to Picasa enables you to organize your pictures on your computer and how to make collages and slide shows. Students need to bring their laptop or PC tower.

Wish you knew when to use your Scene Mode and when to use Auto Mode settings? Do you want to take great photos? Discuss and discover the details of great photography. Enhance and edit photos using Google's Picasa. This is a hands-on class., Students MUST bring a charged camera, extra batteries, a USB cord and the manual that came with the camer. Prerequisite: Basic computer knowledge.

This is a hands-on class that meets both in and out of the classroom. Go on a field trip (to be determined in a class vote), take photos, then meet back in the classroom the following week. This class is for those who already know how to use the buttons and menus on your digital camera, but would like to know how to take better digital photos.

Digital Camera: Learn About the Camera (5 sessions) NEW
This is a hands-on class that meets both in and out of the classroom. This class is for those of you who already know the basics of using the buttons and menus on your digital camera but would like to explore your camera's capabilities further, especially the scene mode and variations obtainable with light and shadow. Outside the classroom, instructor helps you get your best shot. Upon returning to the classroom, learn to enhance and edit the photos using Google's Picasa. Students must bring a charged camera, extra batteries, a USB cord and the manual that came with the camera. This class is NOT for computer neophytes. You MUST have previous computer and interent experience in order to focus fully on learning about the camera.

Learn the Photo Elements features, including quick fix, spot healing brush, clone tool, and smart fix. Crop and adjust tone and color, create and manipulate text, and convert color photos to black and white or sepia. Learn how to create a panoramic picture, printing tricks, and how to save your work so it can be used in other programs. Students with other versions of Photo Shop Elements find that most of the techniques adapt to their program.
